Meditation
In today’s busy world, we are all so distracted that we rarely take the time to stop, relax, and listen to the Lord. This discipline is designed to help you slow down, take the Word of the Lord in Scripture, and allow you to fully digest, dwell, and understand its meaning.
Pick a time when you are not rushed or stressed. Find a quiet place that is private, where you will not be disturbed.
Have a pen and a pad or recording device.
You may use recommended scriptures below or any other verse that God has given you during your search for purpose.
Read the verse you have selected, fully and slowly. Start at the beginning of the verse and contemplate the meaning of each phrase and word couplet.
Have a conversation with The Lord. Ask questions like: “What are you saying to me?” “What is the meaning of this phrase?” “How does this relate to my purpose?” Add any other questions that are meaningful to you. Go deep with God and ask Him for all that He wants to reveal through this Scripture.
Now go to each individual word in the verse and dwell on it. Ask questions like the ones described in the previous step. Savor the words in your mind and heart. Take time and allow the Holy Spirit to open your understanding and begin to speak to you.
As you meditate, let the Holy Spirit personalize the meaning just for you. Let the Lord show you the greater meaning and power in both the individual words and the entire verse.
When you sense the Lord revealing information, thoughts, feelings, or insights, jot them down. Do this immediately following your meditation or while you’re meditating if it is not too disruptive.
